Reaching Aids
I’m sure that I am not the only person who finds the advert for Maoam sweets irritating, when the man uses a reaching aid (otherwise known as a grabber) to pinch his partner’s sweets.
But on the other hand I cannot sing the praises of this gadget enough. When my elderly great-aunt found it increasingly difficult to bend she found this gadget invaluable – saving much pain and frustration in being able to use it to pick up dropped items off the floor or whatever surface with ease.
Subsequently, when my mother accidentally fractured her hip she found that during her recuperation period her range of movement was rather limited and the reaching aid was again worth its weight in the proverbial gold.
There is a range of reaching aids on the market to suit all requirements but in general it can be said that their ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip which is easy to use and does not put a strain on the hand.
So if you struggle to bend or rise easily, or find dropping objects on the floor a source of frustration and discomfort, why not try out a reaching aid from Eltham Care & Mobility.

It could save your temper and keep the swear box emptier for longer!

Kymko Maxi xls Mobility Scooter
The Kymco Maxi XLS mobility scooter, is an extremely comfortable scooter, with a fully adjustable seat to support you on your journey. The level of comfort is added to by the large 12" pneumatic tyres, and the all-around, fully adjustable suspension system, to iron out those humps and bumps of rougher terrain. Aided of course, by the very respectable 4" of ground clearance. Puncture proof tyres are a cost option, giving piece of mind, when travelling further from home.

There are bright LED lights to the front and rear, which are low consumption units that draw very little power from the batteries. The Kymco Maxi XLS mobility scooter also comes with a comfort grip, delta control at the tiller head. More comfortable than standard handlebar type grips, the delta tiller is ideal for those with arthritis in their hands or issues with grip.

Even in the world of 8 mph Class 3 mobility scooters, the Maxi XLS mobility scooter is head and shoulders above most of the competition. Stairsteady

What is StairSteady?
The StairSteady is the ideal solution if you, or a loved one, are having some difficulty getting up and down the stairs, but do not require or cannot afford a stairlift. The device is made up of a handrail, attached to the wall and a handle that provides support, whilst climbing the stairs.
The handle locks in position when weight is applied allowing your patient to pull themselves up the stairs and then slide it forwards so that they can climb the next step or two. The handle is used in the same way when coming down the stairs providing additional security and support.

Ring pulls are often the most awkward for people with limited dexterity in their hands. Using the smooth, plastic, easy-to-hold handle, slip it under the ring pull and opening becomes simple.

Arthritis is a painful and potentially debilitation condition, causing sufferers to depend upon others far more than they would like. Devices such as these reduce this dependency significantly, improving self-confidence overall.
